Description
Lorazepam is a drug of the class of benzodiazepines. These agents are characterized by five effects which are also shared to varying degrees by lorazepam: anxiolytic, anterograde amnesia, sedative / hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxing. The agent has a short to medium duration of action. The drug is mainly prescribed because of its powerful anti-anxiety properties. Within the benzodiazepines class it has a relatively high addiction potential. The tablet form is available in 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 2.5 mg.
Lorazepam is mainly prescribed for the treatment of high tension, anxiety, insomnia or restlessness. In addition, this drug is also used in chemotherapy resulting in nausea and vomiting.
This medicine has a calming effect and reduces anxiety. This medicine has a relaxing effect and can therefore also be used as a sleep aid, but daily use as a sleep aid is not recommended because of the addictive effect.
Compared to other medicines, this medicine has a powerful effect, which makes it especially possible to suppress anxiety. In this case, it is recommended not to use this medicine for longer than two months. It is also recommended to taper this medicine slowly.
